BITHENERGY, University of Maryland completed 3.66 MW solar power project


BITHENERGY and the University of Maryland Medical System have announced of a 3.66 MW solar power project in Somerset County, Md.

UMMS will purchase the electricity generated by the project under a 20-year power purchase agreement with BITHENERGY. UMMS also receives Solar Renewable Energy Credits that help satisfy Maryland’s renewable energy portfolio standard requirements.

The project was initially developed by BITHENERGY, Chesapeake Renewable Energy and Smart Energy Capital. Belectric Inc. provided engineering, procurement and construction services, and Constellation financed, owns and operates the project.

The project uses about 15,500 photovoltaic panels located on about 25 acres. It is expected to generate about 4.7 million KWh of electricity during its first year of operation.
