Westinghouse wins replacement nuclear fuel delivery contract

Westinghouse announced March 13 it has been selected by Sweden’s Vattenfall Nuclear Fuels AB to provide replacement fuel deliveries for the Forsmark 1 and Ringhals 3 nuclear power plants in 2015 with an option for additional deliveries in 2016.

Westinghouse, which has been one of the main suppliers of fuel to the nuclear plants since 1973, will produce the fuel at its fabrication facility in Vasteras, Sweden. The Ringhals 3 reactor, a 1063 MW pressurized water reactor, was manufactured by Westinghouse, while the 995 MW boiling water reactor Forsmark 1 was designed by ASEA-ATOM, which was acquired by Westinhouse in 2000.
