REC Solar expands into New York

REC Solar has announced a major expansion into New York state and will be offering turnkey solar solutions to residents across the state, with an initial focus on Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties.

According to the company, New York is growing quickly as a solar market, and is the 10th biggest solar state in the U.S. with more than 60 MW installed in 2012. The company said the state is expected to be a top-five residential solar market in 2013.

The company also said the state enjoys 180 days of sunshine a year, while Germany, which has the most solar power of any country on the planet, only has 64 sunny days annually. In addition, New Jersey, which has a comparable climate to New York, is already a top-five residential solar market.
