NRG Energy plans natural gas-fired power plant in Corpus Christi

NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG) is planning a natural gas-fired power plant in Corpus Christi, Texas to supply electricity and steam to a proposed plastics plant, according to a report from the Corpus Christi Caller Times. The plant would cost more than $25 million, according to the report.

Citing regulatory filings, the Caller Times said the plant would be built on the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and would be able to generate about 49 MW of power. The report stated the power would be used for a $1 billion plastics plant and a chemical plant being built by the M&G Group of Italy.

An NRG spokesman told the Caller Times it was too early to discuss specifics of the power plant project.
