NRG Energy begins operations at solar power project in California

NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, NRG Solar, said operations started March 5 at the 26 MW Borrego I Solar Generating Station in California. he output will be sold to San Diego Gas & Electric under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Borrego is one of eight large-scale solar power plants that NRG owns. The others are the Agua Caliente, which is currently under construction, and Avra Valley in Arizona; Roadrunner in New Mexico; and the Avenal, Blythe and California Valley Solar Ranch, also under construction. The Ivanpah solar project is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
