Abengoa & BrightSource to develop solar power towers

Abengoa BrightSource Energy solar tower California Palen

Abengoa and BrightSource Energy signed an agreement to jointly develop, build and operate two solar power towers in California.

Both companies will work together to permit and finance the 500 MW Palen Solar Electric Generating System. Abengoa will be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, and will lead the operation and maintenance of the plants once online. BrightSource will provide the solar field technology and plant design. The plant has received approval from the California Energy Commission for construction and operation.

Each 250 MW unit will use a 750-foot tall tower that allows for a high concentration of heliostats.

Construction on the plant is expected to begin at the end of 2013 and come online in 2016.
