L.A. to purchase electricity from Nevada solar projects

The City of Los Angeles has approved contracts to purchase 460 MW of output from two solar projects in Nevada, according to Reuters.

The two projects are K Road Power’s 250 MW Moapa project, slated to be built on tribal land near Las Vegas, and Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE)’s Copper Mountain Solar 3 near Boulder City, Nev. Los Angeles plans to purchase 210 MW of Copper Mountain 3’s 250 MW of generation.

Los Angeles has set a goal to buy 25 percent of its electricity from renewable energy and 33 percent by 2020.
