Caterpillar providing natural gas gensets for power plant in Canada

Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) said it will develop a turnkey power plant, utilizing ten Cat G16CM34 natural gas generator sets, for Alberta Newsprint Co. (ANC) in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada. Caterpillar’s medium-speed, reciprocating engine generator sets will provide ANC with 65 MW of total output capacity, making it Caterpillar’s largest power plant installation in Canada.

ANC’s mill and processing plant operate 24-hours per day and require 125 MW of power to produce approximately 824 tons of newsprint rolled products daily. Any excess energy produced by the ANC’s power plant can be sold back to the grid.

Cosntruction is scheduled to begin in early 2013 and the plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2013.

ANC is a joint venture owned by West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. and Whitecourt Newsprint Co. Limited Partnership.
