EPRI appoints Southern executive to Board of Directors

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) announced the appointment of Mark Crosswhite, the chief operating officer of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), as a member of its Board of Directors.

Crosswhite oversees generation, transmission, engineering and construction services, system planning, research and environmental affairs, fleet operations and trading, Southern Power and Southern Wholesale Energy. He joined Southern in 2004 as senior vice president and general counsel for Southern Company Generation.

Crosswhite joined Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co., in 2006 as senior vice president and counsel.  In 2008, he was named executive vice president for external affairs at Alabama Power, directing regulatory affairs, economic and community development, public relations, environmental affairs, and governmental affairs.  He was elected president and chief executive officer at Gulf Power, another Southern subsidiary, in 2010.
