Alstom to open wind tower manufacturing plant in Brazil

Alstom signed a letter of intent with the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil to build a wind tower turbine production facility. The plant will have an initial investment of 12 million euros ($15.5 million).

The plant will be installed near Alstom’s Grid unit and will produce about 120 towers per year, equivalent to 350 MW of capacity.

The plant is expected to begin operations in 2013.
