BrightSource, NextEra have top bids for solar power projects

Brightsource Energy Inc. had the winning bid for the planned 500 MW Palen Solar Power Project in California.

“Once the court approves the sale and the conditions are satisfied, the acquisition will be complete,” Brightsource said in a statement. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to build a solar thermal plant at the Palen solar site, and to deliver cost-effective and dispatchable clean power to our utility customers.”

NextEra Energy Resources is the top bidder for the 1 GW Blythe solar project in California, according to company spokesman Steven Stengel.

A court hearing is scheduled for June 27 to approve the close of the purchases.

The projects were up for sale after parent company Solar Trust of America filed for bankruptcy in April. Solar Trust is looking to sell another 500 MW project still in the planning stages in Nevada.
