Nuclear research facility in Canada receives Rolls-Royce technology

Rolls-Royce said it delivered the final components of a multimillion dollar package of automated handling, transportation and storage technology to Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL), Canada's nuclear science and technology laboratory.

Rolls-Royce said the technology will enable the safe removal and treatment of radioactive fuel, and its transportation to a new, modern storage facility at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories site in Ontario, the base for Canada’s nuclear research facility for nearly 100 years.

The Chalk River site is home to the NRU reactor, Canada’s only major materials and fuel testing reactor used to support and advance the CANDU reactor design, according to AECL.
