Eletrobras to discuss nuclear power expansion with European companies

Federal power holding company Eletrobras (NYSE: EBR) will reportedly meet with key European stakeholders to discuss an expansion of Brazil's nuclear generation program, including France’s EDF and participation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) forum in Austria, according to BNAmericas.

In addition, engineers from Eletrobras subsidiary Eletronorte will travel to China on May 30 to accompany tests of DC insulators to be used for the Porto Velho-Araraquara 2 transmission line connecting Brazil's southern Amazon basin to São Paulo state, the article said.

The company had completed a study showing 40 areas throughout Brazil where the construction of nuclear plants were viable, according to the article. Brazil is already home to the 657 MW Angra I and the 1.35 GW Angra II nuclear plants. The 1.35 GW Angra III power plant is currently under construction and expected to enter operations in early 2016.
