Wind maps and data available for Latin American markets

AWS Truepower LLC, an international renewable energy consulting and information services company, released high-resolution wind maps and data for Latin American regions, including Central America, Mexico and South America to support wind project development in those markets.

Wind resource averages and characteristics are available through AWS Truepower’s web-based platform, the Wind Site Assessment dashboard. The dashboard is designed to provide wind developers with 24-7 access to wind data, and dashboard subscribers can conduct regional prospecting, prioritize development opportunities and analyze preliminary energy production for more than 200 turbine models with site-specific reports.

Reports indicate that South America may build as much as 2,000 MW of wind capacity in 2012. In 2011, the total installed wind capacity in Brazil alone was more than 1,500 MW. By the end of 2016, more than 7,000 MW of capacity is expected.
