Switchyard helps to bring electricity to Anaheim

ABB (NYSE: ABB) dedicated the Canyon Power 69 kV GIS switchyard to the city of Anaheim, Calif.

The GIS switchyard interconnects the new 200 MW natural gas-fired Canyon Power Project in southern California to the city’s electrical system. The switchyard will also upgrade local electric system reliability, reduce Anaheim’s reliance on out-of-state power resources, and enhance the city’s ability to provide cleaner energy to its customers. The switchyard is also completely enclosed, protecting it from environmental conditions.

The Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) provided financing, the city of Anaheim provided project management, and ABB provided the project on a turnkey basis including all engineering, equipment and construction labor to design, build, test and commission the switchyard.
