SunPower to provide solar panels for Apple data center

SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWRA, SPWRB) will provide solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to power a 20 MW facility at Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) new data center in Maiden, N.C., according to a regulatory filing quoted in the San Jose Mercury News.

Apple has said renewable energy – solar panels and fuel cells – will power a “high percentage” of the data center’s overall electricity needs.

The solar farm will be built in phases and could begin delivering electricity to the grid as early as October.
