Hydroelectric turbines to go to Illinois project

Czech Republic-based Mavel a.s. will provide four Pit Kaplan turbines for the planned 10.26 MW Marseilles hydroelectric power plant on the Illinois River in Illinois.

According to International Water Power and Dam Construction, Mavel will also supply generators, gearboxes, hydraulic power units, cooling system and installation supervision. Commissioning is expected to begin in late 2013.

Project owner Marseilles Land & Water Power Co. received a Federal Energy Reliability Commission (FERC) license for the project inDecember 2011. The plant will be built in the same location as the originalBoyce paper mill and power plant that ceased operations in the late 1950s.
