Gas-fired power plant to be built by Shaw

The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SHAW) on March 26 said it received full notice to proceed on a new dual fuel combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant at Entergy’s (NYSE: ETR) Ninemile Point Steam Electric Station near New Orleans. The 550 MW unit at Ninemile is scheduled to begin commercial operations by the first part of 2015.

In June 2011, Entergy awarded Shaw an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services contract for the construction of the new unit, and Shaw began working under a limited notice to proceed. The notice to proceed fully authorizes Shaw to begin EPC services for the plant.

The approximately $500 million contract was included in Shaw’s Power segment’s backlog of unfilled orders in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.
