Wind and solar projects approved in California

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved five renewable energy projects totaling 1,088 MW of capacity.

The projects include three solar and two wind projects in California. The three solar projects are the Quinto, AVSP I and AVSP II projects for a total of 711 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity. Southern California Edison was approved for three, 20-year power purchase agreements for the projects. The Quinto project is expected to come online in 2014, while both AVSP projects are expected to be operational in 2016.

CPUC also approved the 78.2 MW Montezuma Winds II project, which is expected to come online in late 2012. Pacific Gas & Electric (NYSE: PCG) will purchase the output under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The second wind project is the 299 MW Ocotillo Express project. It is expected to come online in late 2012 and sell the output to San Diego Gas & Electric.
