Wind energy projects completed in Calgary

TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) completed the Montagne Sèche and Phase 1 of the Gros-Morne wind farms in Calgary. The combined generating capacity of the farms is 159 MW.

The two projects are part of the planned five-phase, 590 MW Cartier Wind Energy Project. The power produced will be sold to Hydro-Quebec under a 20-year power purchase agreement. TransCanada Corp. owns a 62 percent interest in the project and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. owns a 38 percent share.

Phase 2 of the Gros-Morne-Sainte-Madeleine wind farm, also the final phase of the Cartier project, is expected to bring an additional 111 MW online by December 2012.
