Siemens completes gas turbine production facility, delivers first turbine

Siemens Energy (NYSE: SI) completed the expansion of a 450,000 square-foot gas turbine production plant adjacent to its existing steam turbine-generator manufacturing plant in Charlotte November 16.

The facility is expected to provide engineering, manufacturing, servicing and other support functions for Siemens’ gas and steam turbines and generators. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational in spring 2012.

Siemens Energy also completed the first SGT6-5000F gas turbine that will be exported to the 250 MW La Caridad 1 combined-cycle power plant in Mexico.

Siemens said it signed a separate agreement with Minera Mexico for the turnkey supply of a second SGT6-5000F gas turbine for the 250 MW La Caridad 2 project. Siemens will supply the gas turbine, as SST-900 steam turbine, an SGEN-1000A generator, a heat recovery steam generator and the complete electrical and instrumentation and control equipment. La Caridad 2 is expected to begin commercial operations in spring 2014.
