PPL Corp. CEO to retire, Spence named as replacement

PPL Corp. (NYSE: PPL) announced Nov. 17 that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Miller will retire effective March 31, 2012. William Spence, current president and chief operating officer, was named CEO effective immediately.

Miller served as chairman, president and CEO of PPL from 2006 until Spence was named president in July 2011.

Spence joined PPL in 2006 as COO. He came to PPL from Pepco Holdings Inc. where he was president of Pepco’s competitive generation and retail marketing businesses. He holds a bachelor's degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Penn State University and a master's degree in business administration from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. He also is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania and the Nuclear Technology Program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
