GE to invest in natural gas-fired power plant, uprate hybrid plant

GE (NYSE: GE) and Turkish energy company MetCap Energy Investments are investing in the 878 MW Eurostar natural gas-fired project in Turkey. The two companies were also approved to nearly double the output of the Dervish Integrated Renewables Combined-Cycle plant from 570 MW to 1,080 MW.

The Eurostar power plant uses two Frame 9FB gas turbines, one steam turbine and one heat recovery steam generator. A consortium of GE and Gama will be the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. The plant is expected to begin commercial operations in 2014.

The Dervish plant uses a 50 Hz 9FB gas turbine, a steam turbine, a generator, 22 MW of GE wind turbines and 50 MW of eSolar CSP tower technology. The plant’s license extension paves the way for a second plant using GE’s FlexEfficiency technology and eSolar’s concentrated solar power technologies.
