Wind energy farm with battery storage enters service

AES Wind Generation and AES Energy Storage began commercial operation at the 98 MW capacity Laurel Mountain wind farm in West Virginia. The project also includes 32 MW integrated battery-based storage.

The project supplies regulation service to the PJM Interconnection and the storage allows the wind farm to control the ramp rate of its generation.

AES Laurel Mountain consists of 61 GE (NYSE: GE) 1.6 MW wind turbine generators and 32 MW of A123 Systems energy storage devices.
