Wind energy farm in Minnesota in the works

Allete Clean Energy, a unit of Allete Inc. (NYSE: ALE), is planning to build a 100 MW wind energy project in Minnesota.

News reports said the company filed a letter of intent with the North Dakota Public Service Commission for the estimated $200 million wind farm, which will be called Clean Energy No. 1.  The project price depends on final design and turbine selection.

The project is reportedly expected to connect to the grid through a direct current transmission line owned by Minnesota Power. Allete Inc. is also the parent company of Minnesota Power.

Allete Clean Energy said in the letter that it plans to finish construction by spring 2012, reports said.
