Solar energy project planned in Arizona

Solon Corp. will build a 10 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) array in Arizona for UniSource Energy Services (UES), a unit of UniSource Energy Corp. (NYSE: UNS).

UES signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for the output of the plant. Solon will finance, design, construct and maintain the system.

The project will be located near UES’ Black Mountain natural gas-fired power plant. It will use 60 Solon single-axis trackers and more than 40,000 utility solar modules. Solon is also providing its own SCADA system.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2011 and the project is scheduled to be in service by 2012.
