Solar energy project hires First Solar as EPC

Tenaska Solar Ventures hired First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work for the planned 130 MW Imperial Solar Energy South project in California.

First Solar will provide EPC services as well as thin-film photovoltaic modules. San Diego Gas & Electric signed a 25-year power purchase agreement for the output from the plant.

Tenaska Solar Ventures will manage the Imperial solar project for Csolar IV South LLC, which will develop, own and operate the project. Both companies are units of Tenaska.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2011 with commercial operation in 2014.
