Emissions control license agreement signed by Hitachi

Hitachi Power Systems America Ltd., a unit of Hitachi America Ltd., signed a license agreement with Balcke-Dürr GmbH, a unit of SPX Corp. (NYSE: SPW), to design and supply fabric filters for the U.S. market. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fabric filter technology controls particulate matter and also helps remove trace pollutants such as acid gases and heavy metals.

The Balcke-Dürr technology uses pulse jet cleaning featuring energy saving management both on-line and off-line modes and has a twin valve system for filter bag cleaning efficiency.

In 2008, Hitachi purchased 12 units of the technology for Eskom’s 800 MW coal-fired power plants in South Africa.
