Coal-fired power plant to use Hitachi emissions control system

Hitachi Power Systems America Ltd., a unit of Hitachi America Ltd., was awarded a contract to design and supply a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for the 800 MW Unit 1 at the Jeffrey coal-fired power plant in Kansas owned by Westar Energy (NASDAQ: WRS).

The contract includes the design and supply of an SCR system that will use Hitachi’s catalyst, which is designed for high nitrogen oxide (NOx) removal over a wide operating load range.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
