AEP's Mike Morris receives EEI Leadership Award

Michael G. Morris, chairman and CEO of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), was awarded Edison Electric Institute's (EEI's) Distinguished Leadership Award for his 23 years of service as an electric utility chief executive.

The award was established to recognize outstanding individual achievement. Morris, who will retire as CEO in November, is the third executive to receive the award. Exelon (NYSE: EXC) Chairman and CEO John Rowe and former Chairman, President and CEO of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO) David M Ratcliffe are past recipients.

Morris joined AEP as chairman, president and CEO in 2004. Before that, he held similar positions with Northeast Utilities System. Morris also served as chairman of EEI from 2005 to 2006.
