Wind energy project to use battery storage system

Juhl Wind Inc. signed a letter of intent with Zinc Air Inc. to install a 1 MW energy storage system at the 10.2 MW Woodstock wind energy farm in Minnesota.

The project’s first phase will consist of the development and installation of the Zinc Redox flow battery. The battery is intended to allow a wind farm to store and shift wind power.

The battery will be installed based on securing a revenue arrangement from a utility buyer or from within the MISO marketplace. There was no word on when the project could begin construction.
