Offshore wind transmission project gains Belgian investor

Belgian transmission company Elia will invest in an offshore transmission backbone project slated to run along the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region.

Elia will become a 10 percent co-investor in the development of the project and offer consulting services to project owner Atlantic Wind Connection (AWC). Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), Marubeni Corp. and Good Energies are also investing in the project.

The development will stretch underground from New Jersey to Virginia and carry up to 6,000 MW of offshore wind energy capacity.
