Solar power plant completed in California

Bechtel, SolFocus and developer Sol Orchard said a 1 MW high concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) power plant was completed for Nichols Farms in Hanford, Calif. The solar plant, which uses the SolFocus SF-1100S CPV system, was designed and built by Bechtel.

The power plant is expected to produce 2.244 million kWh in the first year, providing roughly 70 percent of the pistachio farm’s electricity demand. SolFocus CPV technology uses a system of reflective optics to concentrate sunlight 650 times onto small, highly efficient solar cells.
