Renewable energy finance venture formed by GE and Mitsui

GE Capital formed a joint venture with Tokyo-based Mitsui & Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: MITSY) to finance equipment manufacturers and renewable energy projects around the world.

Mitsui will invest $200 million in private equity-sponsored loans in the first year of the program alongside GE Capital in U.S. commercial finance assets. Mitsui will target additional investments and intends to raise money from Japanese institutional investors. Mitsui will manage the investment management program.

Investment opportunities are expected to include private equity-sponsored loans, large-ticket equipment loans and leases and bank loans. In addition to sourcing the loans and leases for Mitsui's investment consideration, GE Capital will service the assets.
