Workers body recovered at Progress site

The body of a worker was found after the building he was working in collapsed unexpectedly at Progress Energy Florida’s retired 452 MW Paul Bartow power plant in Florida.

Rescuers found the body of Clark White June 13. White was a contract worker with Frontier Industrial Corp. and was helping to dismantle the retired Unit 3 boiler on June 9.

Workers were preparing for a controlled collapse of the boiler at 8:30 p.m. EST, but it fell unexpectedly at 7:15 p.m. White reportedly was the only person in the building at the time, but 20 other employees were on the site. Dismantling work on the boiler has since been halted.

Progress Energy converted the site to natural gas units in 2009 and shut down its oil-fired boilers.
