Xcel Energy head to retire

Xcel Energy chairman and CEO Richard Kelly will retire effective August 24.

The company’s board of directors elected Benjamin Fowke III as his successor. Fowke recently served as president and chief operating officer of Xcel.

Kelly held several positions with Xcel, including COO and chief financial officer and is completing his term as chairman of the Edison Electric Institute.

Fowke was executive vice president and CFO from 2008 to 2009 and has held several executive positions with the company since 2000.
