Voith wins two Chinese hydro equipment contracts

Two Chinese utilities have awarded Voith Hydro equipment supply contracts for two hydropower projects, totalling 350m RMB ($54m).
The first contract is from Da Tang YanTan Hydropower Company Limited, which is extending its Yan Tan plant located at the Hongshui River in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Voith will supply the generators for two 340 MW units.
The second is with Huanghe Hydropower Development Company Limited, which is building the Yang Qu hydropower plant on the Yellow River. Voith Hydro will supply three Francis turbines, with an output of 400 MW each.
China currently generates 22 per cent of its electricity from hydropower, but the government has plans to increase the existing installed capacity to 380 000 MW by 2020.
