GE unveils new wind turbine

GE introduced a new wind turbine, the 1.6-100, which includes components from its 2.5-100 wind turbine.

The 1.6-100 wind turbine is designed to offer a 47 percent increase in swept area over previous models. GE said this results in a 19 percent increase in annual energy production at wind speeds of 7.5 meters per second.

The company said it has 630 MW of commitments for the turbine, including 372.8 MW for three proposed wind projects owned by Invenergy.
