GE to provide gas expansions

GE booked a $500 million order to provide gas turbine technology and services for four Saudi Electricity Co. power plant expansions.

The four power plant expansions will add 1,680 MW of power to the Saudi grid. Electricity demand is increasing at 6 percent a year.

GE is also providing all four plant expansions with technical advisory services as well as performance testing along with training for technical teams.

The new power plant expansion projects that GE will supply include: 

  • Three 7FA gas turbines, one D11 steam turbine and four generators for combined-cycle service in a 600 MW expansion in Ourrayah,
  • Eight Frame 7EA gas turbines and generators, which will join 32 GE Frame 7EA gas turbines already installed in a 480 MW expansion at the PP-10 power plant near Riyadh City,
  • Eight Frame 7EA gas turbines and generators in a 480 MW expansion of the PP-10 power plant near Riyadh City, and
  • Two Frame 7EA gas turbines and generators for a 120 MW simple-cycle duty expansion near Tabouk
