Constellation buys 30 MW PV plant

Constellation Energy acquired a 30 MW DC (25 MW AC) solar generation project in Sacramento, Calif., from Belectric Inc., a developer. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

The system will use 381,000 First Solar thin film photovoltaic panels, ground-mounted at multiple sites near Sacramento. Constellation will own and operate the system and sell the power to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District under 10, 20-year power purchase agreements.

The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2011.
