CEC approves natural gas-fired power plants

The California Energy Commission approved licenses for the 624 MW Oakley and the 200 MW Mariposa natural gas-fired power plants.

Work is expected to begin on the Mariposa peaking plant in 2011 with commercial operation by mid-2012. It is owned by Mariposa Energy LLC and will use four GE LM6000 natural gas-fired turbines.

The Oakley plant is expected to begin operations after 2016 and will use GE Energy 60Hz Frame 7FA gas turbines. It will be developed by Radback Energy Inc. and owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
