AMSC names McGahn CEO

American Superconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:AMSC) named Daniel McGahn, current president and chief operating officer (COO), as chief executive officer and a member of the Board of Directors, effective June 1, 2011.

McGahn succeeds founder Gregory Yurek, who is retiring after more than two decades with the company. Yurek will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board until the company’s annual meeting of stockholders in August and as a Senior Advisor to the company for the next two years.

McGahn joined AMSC in December 2006 as vice president, Strategic Planning and Corporate Development. In 2008, McGahn was promoted to the position of senior vice president and general manager of AMSC Superconductors, and he was promoted to president and COO in December 2009.
