Siemens books two projects

Siemens was awarded two orders to upgrade the control systems of five power plants and install a new electrical system at four run-of-river power stations.

As part of the first project, Siemens will upgrade the existing control systems at five Oglethorpe Power Corp. power plants with its SPPA-T3000 system. Siemens will provide the 17 gas turbines, one steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators and the balance-of-plant controls until March 2014. The systems will be installed in the Chattahoochee combined-cycle power plant, along with the Smarr, Hawk Road, Sewell Creek and Talbot County simple-cycle power plants in Georgia.

Siemens received the second order from Voith Hydro Inc. to install its SPPA-E3000 electrical solutions at four new power houses of American Municipal Power’s Ohio River run-of-river power stations. Four new power houses owill be modernized with electrical controls, as well as synchronization, coordination and protection for all of the 11 bulb turbines.
