Siemens sells H Class gas turbine to South Korea's GS Electric Power

Siemens has sold a flagship H Class gas turbine to South Korean utility GS Electric Power and Services, which is building the 400 MW Bugok 3 CCGT.
Siemens says Bugok 3 will attain an efficiency above the landmark figure of 60 per cent and supply electricity to more than 300 000 people. The plant is scheduled to come on line in the summer of 2013.
The German manufacturer will supply the Bugok 3 power plant as a turnkey project. The scope of supply includes a new-generation SGT6-8000H gas turbine, SST6-5000HI-L steam turbine, a hydrogen-cooled generator SGEN6-2000H, a Benson HRSG as well as electrical equipment and the Instrumentation & Controls system SPPA-T3000. A long-term maintenance agreement was also concluded for the main components.
Michael Suess, CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division of Siemens Energy, said: "After the Irsching 4 project in Germany, an order for six turbines for Florida Power & Light in the US and now Bugok 3 in South Korea our world-record gas turbine will be deployed on three continents. We also see great interest in our most advanced gas turbine technology e.g. in Russia, Brazil as well as in Germany, France and Turkey,” said

The new Siemens H Class gas turbine generation had its market entry in mid-2010 and will post efficiency records of more than 60 per cent in combined-cycle operation.

In comparison with the installed global fleet of gas fired power plants gas consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are both reduced by approximately one-third. Compared to coal fired power plants the H Class reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 75 per cent, claims Siemens.
