Nuclear power renaissance underway in Europe

The European energy market is witnessing a revival of nuclear power, according to a survey by Nuclear Power Europe, a part of power industry networking event POWER-GEN Europe.

At present, the continent has 19 nuclear power plants under construction across six countries within Europe and nuclear policies are being reviewed.

The survey, conducted among experts from global utility companies and energy firms, also showed industry-wide optimism on the prospects for suppliers to the European nuclear sector in 2011 with over 63 per cent of participants predicting growth in the coming year.

Nuclear Power Europe 2011 conference director Tim Probert said that there has been a clear shift in opinion in favour of nuclear energy in key European markets.

"In the last year alone, we have seen a commitment to developing and cultivating nuclear power around the world, and no more so than in Europe," Probert said. The results of the survey were announced ahead.
