American Electric Power will complete construction of a 580 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant near Dresden, Ohio. The partially built plant was purchased in 2007 for $85 million by AEP through its AEP Generating Co. unit from Dresden Energy LLC, a unit of Dominion.

AEP expects the plant to be operational during the first quarter of 2012. At the time of its purchase, AEP said the plant would be in service in 2010.

"As we continue to diversify our generating fleet, the time is right to accelerate construction of this plant," said Michael G. Morris, AEP chairman and CEO.
