Iranian gas plants due Siemens compressors

Palayesh Parsian Sepehr Co. (PPSC), through a contractor, has let a contract to Siemens AG to supply 12 of its STC-SV vertical split compressor trains for two onshore natural gas processing plants in Iran.

Siemens will deliver 10 trains to the ethane (C2+) recovery plant at Mohr in southcentral Iran’s Fars Province, with an additional two trains to be delivered to a fractionation plant in Assaluyeh, Bushehr Province, the service company said.

Of the 10 trains at Mohr, four will be driven by Siemens’ proprietary SGT-700 gas turbines, four by its SGT-100 gas turbines, and the remaining two by an electric motor. The two compressor trains at Assaluyeh each will be driven by Siemens’ SST-600 steam turbines.

While some natural gas processed into C2+ hydrocarbons at the Mohr plant will be used to directly serve Iran’s domestic gas market, long-chained hydrocarbons from Mohr will be transported 60 miles via pipeline to the Assaluyeh plant for further fractionation into feedstock—ethane, propane, and butane—for the petrochemical industry, according to Siemens.

The Mohr and Assaluyeh plants are scheduled to enter commercial operation by yearend 2018.

Siemens valued the equipment supply contract—which was awarded directly by Hampa Engineering Corp., Tehran, one of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors for the PPSC project—in the high double-digit million euros.

Project overview

PPSC initially let a contract to a consortium of Hampa Engineering and Hampa Energy Engineering & Design Co., Shiraz, to provide engineering and procurement (EP) for the Parsian C2+ recovery and fractionation project at Mohr and Assaluyeh in August 2011.

In January 2015, the EP contract was amended to include EPC and commissioning services, according to the consortium.

In a description of the project provided by Hampa Engineering, combined capacities of the Mohr and Assaluyeh plants are listed as follows:

• Methane, 15.4 million tonnes/year.

• Ethane, 1.26 million tpy.

• Propane, 613,000 tpy.

• Butane, 450, 000 tpy.

• Condensate (C5+), 971,000 tpy.
