ARA Petroleum acquires Block 44 in Oman

ARA Petroleum LLC, Muscat, said it will conduct drilling and workover campaigns in 2017 and 2018 on Omani Block 44 after acquiring PTTEP Oman Co., which has held a 100% interest in the onshore acreage since 2002 (OGJ Online, Apr. 26, 2005).

The block, about 300 km west of Muscat, encompasses Shams natural gas and condensate field and Munhamir oil field.

ARA, formed in 2014 by the Omani conglomerate Zubair Corp., said further engineering studies will begin soon. The acquisition is subject to closing conditions.

Earlier in August, ARA confirmed its acquisition of 29.9% of Aminex PLC, Dublin, which operates mainly in Tanzania.
