BP taps Petrofac for Miller decommissioning

BP PLC has let a “duty holder” contract to Petrofac to support decommissioning of the idle platform on Miller oil and natural gas field in the central UK North Sea.

Production from the platform ceased in 2007. BP has been conducting well abandonment and topsides clean-up, expecting the topsides to be removed during 2017 or 2018.

Petrofac said award of its contract will allow BP to accelerate the work. BP remains the license owner.

The contract is for the life of the asset but has a 4-year ceiling.
