Total invests in solar energy developers

Total SA’s venture capital fund has acquired unspecified interests in two companies that develop solar power in rural areas with limited access to electricity grids, especially in Africa.

One of the companies is Off Grid Electric, based in Arusha, Tanzania, and San Francisco. Off Grid develops and markets distributed solar home systems and battery storage.

The other company in which Total Energy Ventures has acquired an interest is Powerhive, San Francisco, which develops and operates solar microgrids with battery storage and local distribution.
